Hello! Thank you for your interest in joining our Oregon specific pen-pal program. We launched this new system for people outside of prisons to match with our inside members (LGBTQ+ and/or HIV-Positive people incarcerated in Oregon prisons).
Through this form, you will learn about guidelines and expectations for having an incarcerated LGBTQ+ and/or HIV-Positive pen-pal, and then you'll get a chance to sift through the bios that our inside members have shared about themselves. After you've chosen your pen-pal, we will send you your new pen-pal's address and you can get started with your first letter! That email will also include all of the information in this form for your reference.
Completing this form and getting matched with a pen-pal entails mostly reviewing information and reflecting. If you're new to corresponding with an incarcerated pen-pal, or even if you're not, we ask that you take your time to review these guidelines thoroughly. We promise you'll learn a lot about being an awesome pen-pal! It is reading heavy, however we have an audio option embedded in this form too.
This form has been adapted from resources shared by Black and Pink National, the Prisoner Correspondence Project, and our experiences as pen-pals in Oregon.
If you're located outside of Oregon, you can check out
blackandpink.org/penpal-newsletter to find a pen-pal in any of the other states.
If you want to join our listserv, but aren't ready to sign up for a pen-pal today, you can fill out a shorter form at
