Tri-County's Online Driver's Course
This module will replace the annual "Driver's meeting" for those staff that drive a Tri-County vehicle at any time during the school year.
This is a REQUIREMENT for all drivers to complete before driving a Tri-County vehicle.
Each vehicle is assigned a gas card. The person that the gas card is checked out to is responsible for the gas card. Gas cards are for Tri-County vehicle gas use ONLY. *
Required
ALL vans must have a cell phone on them. Tri-County/Sherry Pauzauskie will provide the cell phone OR drivers/riders may opt to use their own. If the driver/rider choose to use their personal cell phone, the school must have that number. Cell phones should NEVER be used by the driver while the vehicle is moving. If there is a need to make a call or answer a call to/from a parent, supervisor, or 911, the rider may make the call or the driver may make the call after pulling over to a safe location. The need for the cell phone is for access and safety and should never be used for personal use. *
Required
Gas receipts and mileage: Gas receipts and mileage must be turned in to the main Tri-County office at the end of every month. Be sure to indicate the vehicle number on the receipt and sign each receipt. *
Required
Snow Days: Safety is Tri-County's number one priority. The Director of Tri-County is aware of the weather and will make the decision as to whether transportation or a Tri-County program is cancelled. Make sure you are signed up for the Para Remind Account and that your supervisor has your most current phone number. You will be contacted if school or a Tri-County program is cancelled. *
Required
Drug Screening: Safety is Tri-County's number one priority. To ensure our students are safe, all paraprofessionals/ACs that drive for Tri-County are obligated to at least one drug screening when they begin their job, and random drug screening throughout the year. *
Required
Use of booster seats: All children ages 4, 5, 6, and 7 are required to ride in a booster seat unless: 1) The child weighs more than 80 pounds. 2) The child is taller than 4 feet 9 inches. Tri-County will provide the booster seat. If a booster seat is needed, please contact the main office and you will receive a booster seat. *
Required
Back seat: Students may never ride in the front seat if they are age 13 or under, per Kansas Highway Patrol. *
Required
Seat belts: All students and adults must have their seat belt fastened before the vehicle goes in motion and during the entire drive. *
Required
Driver's License, Background Check and Student Transportation Disclosure: Tri-County must have a 1) current copy of every DRIVER's driver's license 2) Student Transportation Disclosure signed and 3) a background check completed. This paperwork must be done before driving a Tri-County vehicle. This paperwork will be completed at the Main Office or at Inservice. *
Required
Speed limit: Drivers must always be aware of, and follow the speed limit. *
Required
Student phone numbers: Each van must always have a current list of the students and the student home phone numbers and other emergency phone numbers. *
Required
Daily Vehicle Safety Check: It is a requirement that before driving a vehicle a basic safety check occurs by walking around the vehicle to look for any obvious signs of a safety concern. Look at all 4 tires, look at lights, look for any tampering that may have occurred since the last drive. Each van must have a safety check-off sheet in their van to document this check. NEW THIS YEAR: There must be adult supervision during loading and unloading at each drop off/pick up. *
Required
Maintenance of Vehicles: It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that all maintenance of the vehicle is taken care of. This includes, but is not limited to oil changes, tires, or any other concern. Tri-County has an account with a provider in each community that will take care of these needs. Please contact Sherri Pauzauskie at the main office to get the contact or location information for these businesses. *
Required
Cleaning vehicles: Tri-County vehicles must be clean at all times. Take trash out of vehicle after each drive (morning and evening). Often vehicles that are used to transport student to and from home are also used during the day. The outside of the vehicle must also be clean. Tri-County has car wash tokens. Please contact Sherri Pauzauskie for car wash tokens. If the inside needs to be vacuumed, the driver may use their own quarters and turn in an expense form to get reimbursed for the vacuuming cost. *
Required
Time Sheets: Driver time sheets are a separate time sheet from your daily duties, if driving/riding before and after school, which means you will turn in two time sheets each month if you are a para/AC that drives students to and from school. Please mark the time sheet as "Transportation" so the pay differential can be calculated. Time sheets are due at the end of each month. *
Required
Food and drink in the vehicles: Food and drink in the vehicle is based on many factors. Many of our students are traveling a long distance in the morning or after school and may need to finish eating breakfast or have a snack. Sometimes our students are much safer on the vehicle if they are allowed to have food or drink. In other situations, there may be a situation where this may not be best for the students in the van. In any case, the team of the program will make this decision to support the needs of the students. All trash will need to be thrown away once at the destination. *
Required
Scrapers and Deicers: All vehicles should have a scraper and deicer. If not, ask Sherri Pauzauskie at the main office for these items. Vehicles should never be in motion if the windows are not cleaned off and there is not full visibility. *
Required
Schedule of daily pick-up and drop-off: Each van must have a daily pick-up and drop-off schedule. Parents/Guardians need to be aware of this schedule. A copy of this schedule must be given to your supervisor. *
Required
Honesty on Time sheets: Be honest when reporting on your time sheet. Start time and end time should be accurate. Use the most direct route to your destination. If you are absent, do not report that as a day worked. If there is a question about the honesty of a time sheet an investigation occurs by the supervisor and administration. Issues with honesty on a time sheet are grounds for termination. *
Required
Student Transportation Disclosure: This must be completed and signed annually. Sherri Pauzauskie has these forms at the main office. *
Required
NEW THIS YEAR: I understand that I must participate and respond to the monthly safety meetings via email/computer. *
