Stayin’ Alive – Sustainability, Relevancy, & Culture
2020 Annual Meeting and ConferenceBridgeport, WVMarch 26-29, 2019
We are pleased to announce that the West Virginia Association of Museums’ annual meeting and conference will be held March 26-29, 2020, in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
The mission of the West Virginia Association of Museums is to serve, educate, advocate for, and enhance communications within the museum community. By listening to its members, serving their interests, and keeping members abreast of current national standards and activities, WVAM works to benefit institutions, professionals, volunteers, and others interested in the museums of the Mountain State.
The theme of our 2020 conference is “Stayin’ Alive: Sustainability, Relevancy, and Culture.” Each year, we see museums, large and small, scale back their operations, or in the worst case, close their doors entirely due to challenges with sustainability and being relevant to their communities. West Virginia’s museums share these same challenges, and the good news is, we are here to help. With this conference, we intend for our sessions to offer practical guidance on how to stem the tide, and keep your museum going strong well into the 21st century.
We are now accepting proposals for papers, presentations, workshops, exhibits, and poster sessions addressing our theme, “Stayin’ Alive - Sustainability, Relevancy, & Culture.” As always, we are also accepting sessions which focus on collections care and management, interpretation, non-profit management, grant writing, exhibit design, fundraising, and emergency preparedness - as well as proposals which address materials conservation, history, and preservation-related issues. We especially encourage hands-on sessions that will teach our members new skills. We are looking for practical, useful, “doable” solutions for small museums and historical societies. Don’t worry if your idea does not fit into one of the categories above--just reach out to us if you have any questions or ideas about a topic. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Crystal Wimer 304.813.8569 .
The deadline for submission of proposals is October 31, 2019.
