Save the Dunes is a Northwest Indiana Environmental Organization that protects and advocates for the Indiana dunes, Lake Michigan, and the surrounding natural areas for the health and vitality of the environment, and the people who live, work, and recreate in Northwest Indiana. For more than 70 years we have worked to create collaborative partnerships across the aisles, across sectors, and across the Northwest Indiana lakeshore to protect and defend the Indiana dunes from a variety of threats. We work to enhance and protect the incredible biodiversity of our natural spaces through our work in Advocacy, Conservation, and Community Engagement.
Save the Dunes is assembling a cohort of youth advocates from Lake County to educate on regional, state, and federal advocacy efforts in Northwest Indiana. Participants will engage in 9 sessions led by Save the Dunes staff: 5 virtual learning sessions covering grassroots, municipal, state, and federal advocacy, 4 in-person field trips, and a final presentation by the students on an advocacy topic they will engage in once the cohort project is finished. Virtual sessions will feature speakers from partner organizations to offer diverse perspectives and networking opportunities. Field trips will include a visit to the Indiana Dunes, Gary City Hall, the Indiana Statehouse, and a meeting with Congressman Mrvan's office. Through mentorship and education, we aim to empower Lake County youth to engage with lawmakers and become leaders in environmental advocacy, shaping an inclusive and equitable future for generations.

Applicants should:
- Live or attend college in Lake County
- Be 18- 25 years old
- Be passionate about Environmental issues!
Participants will receive $200 to compensate for field trip travel expenses
