Any combination of writer or illustrator from a diverse experience, LGBTQIA, native, people of color, gender, people with disabilities, ethnic and/or cultural minorities that are traditionally under-represented in children’s literature in America is encouraged to apply.
Applicants do not need to live in PA but this award is only for the 2017 SCBWI WPA Agent Workshop.
Story Starter Award: We will cover some or all of the costs for diverse writers/illustrators to attend the 2017 SCBWI Western PA Agent Workshop.
How to Apply: Writers will submit up to five pages of a manuscript and illustrators will provide a link to an online portfolio.

Your submission must be an original work for young readers and may not be under contract. If not written in English, please provide a translation. Illustrators should provide a link to a portfolio. Writers please submit no more than 5 pages, double spaced, 12 point font.
Award can be used to cover one or more of these expenses: membership to SCBWI, workshop fees, hotel stay, parking, and transportation/gas reimbursement.
Applicant will need to join SCBWI to attend the 2017 Agent Workshop. Applicant must be over 18.
