NYLEC is a subsidiary of the College Student Personnel Association of New York State (CSPA - NYS) and serves as a conference for professionals and paraprofessionals from public & private colleges and universities in New York State who are involved in the coordination of student leadership education. The purpose of the conference is to provide an opportunity for professional growth through sharing ideas, resources, best practices in student leadership development and networking. Through this mission, NYLEC serves to enhance opportunities for student success. Each year NYLEC seeks to share research, knowledge and best practices in the field to ensure meaningful programming for our students.
The theme of this year’s conference is "Navigating Leadership". The keynote speaker, Dr. John Dugan, is Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Loyola University of Chicago and is an accomplished author and co-author of several leadership books including the Handbook for Student Leadership Development. Dr. Dugan has also done significant study of the Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership (MSL) and research on developmental sequencing. We are fortunate and excited to welcome Dr. Dugan to NYLEC.
We invite presenters to consider the ways in which they guide students to success through leadership programming and education. The conference will highlight different leadership models, approaches, theories, and styles. Possible topic areas include: inclusivity, promotion, innovation, high-impact practices, academic partnerships, etc. Educational sessions are 60 minutes in length. It is encouraged that session designs be interactive and provide information that attendees can apply in their work as coordinators or instructors of leadership education in colleges and universities.
In addition to submitting proposals about models, approaches, theories and styles, the Programming Committee is also soliciting proposals that highlight innovative leadership programs. This year, in lieu of honoring one innovative program at the awards ceremony at NYLEC, the Programming Committee will select three innovative programs that will be showcased during the concurrent sessions. One session during each block of concurrent sessions will be devoted to learning about a chosen innovative program. This is a great opportunity to share the amazing leadership programs happening on your campus and to learn about creative and impactful programs taking place around the state.
Presenters are expected to register for the conference. No fees, honorariums, or expenses are paid to presenters of conference educational sessions.
The deadline for submission of proposals is March 22, 2013.
