Briefly, Sgt Hunter lost his life on June 18th, 2004 while he and Officer Seix investigated a suspicious vehicle outside the Wal-Mart located on IH 20 in Grand Prairie. The suspect shot and fatally wounded Sgt. Hunter. Officer Seix was then shot twice but was able to return fire killing the suspect. Later investigation found the van contained an automatic rifle, 2 handguns, a fused pipe bomb and ports of another bomb being assembled. There is no doubt his actions saved multiple American lives that day.
Sergeant Hunter had served with the Grand Prairie Police Department for 29 years, 4 months and 9 days. He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, sister, and aunt.
Their is no better way to honor the sacrifice Sgt. Hunter made than to rename this portion of IH 20 after him. I encourage you to sign the petition below as well as invite your friends in the Grand Prairie community to do the same.
