Our goals with the Big Bang Mile are twofold: 1) to commemorate the noble prize-winning discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation at the nearby Crawford Hill site and 2) to offer runners an exceptionally fast and spectator-friendly course. We also aim to promote science and technology – particularly carbon-free energy -- to the general public and to draw young people toward careers in S.T.E.M. fields.
This coming year will be our fourth Big Bang Mile. The three previous editions served as USA Track and Field state-level Championship Races and drew over 200 contestants each. Those races drew some big-time talent, with one national age group record being broken in 2022 and two records nearly broken in 2023. In 2024, the Big Bang Mile will once again serve as a USATF New Jersey Championship race. As with last year, we plan to host a Science Avenue with exciting booths for people of all ages.
