This half-day training will strategically look at ways LGBTQ service providers can begin to actively engage members of the Trans* and Gender Non-Conforming community in a programmatic setting. Participants will work together to develop a toolkit they can take back to their respective work settings. We will look at barriers to care and stigmas that seem to persist within the TGNC community that must be assessed in a culturally competent way. The training will include self-assessment tools to assist participants build their toolkits.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to: 1. Develop strategies for better engagement to members of the TGNC community. 2. Deliver accurate messages/messaging to members of the TGNC community that are relatable to the work environment. 3. Understand the differences between LGB service provisions and the TGNC community. Recognize the historical narratives that exist and develop concrete ways to begin to address them. 4. Develop tailored harm reduction messages to clients who have been deemed hard to reach or have fallen out of care
