Ram Camp Leader Application

Thank you for your interest in the Ram Camp Leader position! The Ram Camp Leader is a member of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and as such is a part of Texas Wesleyan University Student Life. This position reports directly to the Coordinator of Student Activities and Leadership, Jasmine Tuya.

    RAM CAMP LEADER LEARNING OUTCOMES

    After completing their service, RAM CAMP Leaders will be able to: • Facilitate small and large group discussions on a multitude of topics. • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to create inclusive communities. • Implement a shared vision through collaboration and effective leadership. • Demonstrate innovative thinking through their leadership as a Ram Camp Leader. • Articulate their strengths and personal values, and relate them to their day-to-day work. • Communicate effectively with others to convey information in both oral and written forms. • Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve individually and and as a collective Ram Camp Leader team. • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and engage in dialogue with others of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and identities. • Articulate the ground rules for creating a safe space for students to explore their identities, personal leadership, and develop a sense of purpose as a Texas Wesleyan University Ram.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be a full-time student graduating in December 2014 or later. • Must be a Texas Wesleyan University student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 at time of application, maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 throughout period of service, and also maintain good disciplinary standing according to university policy. • Must demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, willingness to learn and grow, and professionalism. • Must be able to maintain a high energy level, enthusiasm, and stamina when working long hours. • Must demonstrate involvement in the Texas Wesleyan University community and pride in the Texas Wesleyan University experience. • Must demonstrate excitement and energy in working with first-year students, and a commitment to helping first-year students explore friendship, Texas Wesleyan University traditions, identity, and purpose. • Must be committed to developing and taking leadership, communication, and customer service skills. • Must have confidence to act/perform and speak in front of peers. • Must be available for ALL Ram Camp Leader time and date commitments, including all training times (dates and times are listed below)

    DUTIES

    The Ram Camp Leader will be responsible for leading a small group of 10-12 first-year students (with a co-leader) at Ram Camp 2014 to help establish friendships, teach Texas Wesleyan University traditions, help first-year students explore their identity, and to develop a sense of purpose as a Texas Wesleyan University Ram. Specific SPRING 2014 responsibilities (after selection) include: • Attend one, 1-hour mandatory staff meeting: April 22, 2014 Specific SUMMER 2014 responsibilities include: • Attend and participate in Ram Camp training: August 2014 (tentative Dates August 14-15) • Assist the Texas Wesleyan University Professional Staff and Ram Camp Director Board in organizing and preparing program logistics and development for Ram Camp. • Work remotely one hour a week with (co leader) to develop team history, cheer and chant over the course of the summer, • Facilitate icebreaker activities with first-year students throughout the Ram Camp experience to promote community building. • Assist with setup, decoration, and logistical needs Ram Camp. • Assist in the facilitation and processing of all Ram Camp small and large group activities • Follow the Ram Camp Risk Management policies and report any incident to your immediate supervisor. • Other duties as assigned.

    Specific FALL 2014 responsibilities include:

    • Assist the Staff in organizing and preparing program logistics for Week of Welcome (WOW), including … • Provide opportunities for new students to meet other students and attend WOW traditions • Continue to engage with Campus participants and students through text message, social media, reconnection activities and other communication methods to help promote Texas Wesleyan University events • Other duties as assigned.

    PERIOD OF SERVICE

    The official period of service will be from April 2014 – August 2014.

    TERMS OF SERVICE

    Ram Camp Leaders must have at least a 2.25 cumulative grade point average to apply and must maintain at least a 2.25 cumulative grade point average during their affiliation with Ram Camp. All Ram Camp Leaders are expected to check their Texas Wesleyan University e-mail frequently and respond to all communication from Ram Camp staff within 24 hours. In addition, members of the Ram Camp staff are expected to act as ambassadors and representatives of Student Activities and Leadership, Ram Camp, and Texas Wesleyan University at all times. They must exhibit behavior appropriate to University and civil regulations, demonstrate good customer service skills, fully participate in all training activities, and provide feedback to Jasmine Tuya concerning Ram Camp Leader issues of any kind (personnel, programmatic, etc.). Ram Camp Leaders must be committed to the spring training dates, summer training dates and responsibilities, all dates for Ram Camp and Welcome Week, and all responsibilities tied to their role. Ram Camp Leaders are expected to engage with their students continuously throughout the fall semester, both autonomously and as requested by the Ram Camp office.
