Storm Sessions for Alaska Musicians

The Alaska State Council on the Arts (ASCA) is pleased to announce the inclusion of a high-level professional development opportunity for Alaskan independent musicians as part of Latitude: 2014 Arts Convergence, ASCA's statewide arts conference that will be held in Anchorage May 1-3, 2014. The Storm Sessions will be held on Saturday, May 3rd.

The Storm Sessions professional development opportunity is geared toward musicians of all stripes—from classical to rock, hip hop to punk—who are at a point in their career where their work is established but has not yet expanded far beyond their local community or the Alaska music scene. This professional development opportunity is open to Alaskan musicians and will include topics such as: Effective Music Marketing in the Digital Age, What You Should Know About The Future of Music, Social Media and Music: How To Win Fans and Influence More People, Pennies From Heaven: How Do Artists Make Money in the Digital Age?, and When You’re 64: Career Planning for Artists.

The faculty for the Music Seminar is Storm Gloor, music business professor at the University of Colorado, Denver’s College of Arts and Media, where he developed the Music Marketing and Music in the Digital Age courses. Gloor also oversees the college’s award-winning record label, CAM Records. Prior to academia, Gloor spent 14 years in the retailing, purchasing, and distribution sides of the music industry.

To register to participate in this session, please complete this form. Space is limited--registrations will close on Friday April 25, 2014 or when we have received 30 registrations. Up to two members from a band may participate. If you apply, please plan to attend in Anchorage on Saturday, May 3rd.

Please note that this registration form asks for information that will be utilized to ensure that the session meets the needs of the participants. If you have any questions regarding this event or the registration process, please email Yngvil Vatn Guttu at: yngvilvg@gmail.com. This workshop is free to musicians, though we strongly encourage participants to register for the Latitude: 2014 Arts Convergence at: http://www.akarts.org/alaska-arts-and-culture-conference.
