To participate in Patrols or Water Safety members are required to hold either of the following Aquatic awards -
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), minimum age 13 years and 200m swim in 5 mins or less. This is a
20 hour course which provides participants with basic patrolling and surf awareness
knowledge, including aquatic rescue techniques, enabling participation in basic lifesaving patrol activities.
usually run over 4 days (one evening and 1/2 day for 5 weeks in October - November
orBronze Medallion (BM), minimum age 15 years and 400m swim in 9 mins or less. This is a 40 hour course which provides participants with patrolling and surf awareness
knowledge, including aquatic rescue techniques, first aid and emergency care, enabling participation in lifesaving patrolling operations.
run over weekday evenings (twice a week) and 1/2 day on weekends in November
or 6 days intensive in the third week of December
*** Bronze Medallion Bridging (BMB) course, for those members who hold a current proficient SRC (ie. you completed Skills Maintenance last season) and patrolled for 10 hours or more in the last 12 months. Minimum age 15 years and 400m swim in 9 mins or less, is a 25 hour course
run over 4 days, aligned with days 3-6 of December BM intensive.
New members are welcome. We will be offering and supporting the 8-week LSV free Bronze Medallion fitness training program, commencing in September, to help you prepare for the course. There is a similar SRC fitness program if people are interested.
