Interns meet weekly on i-days as a team and then individually with an faculty/staff AI lead to support one of four AI areas at IMSA: Ethics, Research, AI Credential, and Entrepreneurship. Students selected for the internship receive credit on their transcript. The experience also makes an outstanding addition to a resume as well!
You have the opportunity to apply for up to four positions described as follows, but assigned only to one role. DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 5, 2025. Students will be notified of their selection on September 10, 2025.
AI Credential Student Lead
The AI Credential Student Lead is a role that supports one computer science faculty member with online AI credential coursework available for IMSA and non-IMSA students.
Through this position, you’ll have the chance to engage with other AI Center Interns weekly, student leads, and advisory board members to help shape the broader educational framework surrounding AI at IMSA. Your involvement will extend to developing, promoting, and presenting AI Bytes S & E programs in collaboration with fellow interns and AI pathways. You’ll also provide essential support to the IMSA community by staffing the AI Center and assisting with curricular connections and peer mentoring related to AI education.
AI Research and Development Intern
As an AI Research + Development Intern, you will collaborate closely with one computer science faculty member lead to support and advance student research initiatives at IMSA. Your role will involve actively learning about the latest developments in AI, particularly in computer science and machine learning, while also guiding students in designing research projects, developing methodologies, and considering ethical implications.
You will participate in regular meetings with other AI Center Interns weekly, student leads, and advisory board members, contributing to research strategy and the overall development of the AI Center. Additionally, you will help staff the AI Center, offering support to fellow students and community members engaged in AI research and assisting with publishing research findings.
AI Ethics and Education Intern
As an AI Ethics Intern, you will work closely with one of two Ethics in AI lead social science and humatities faculty members to establish and help educate students and faculty on ethical guidelines for AI. This role will allow you to explore the intersection of AI, ethics, and the humanities, ensuring that AI solutions are ethically aligned with IMSA’s educational goals.
You will participate in AI Center meetings with other interns weekly, student leads, and advisory board members, contributing to the broader development and administration of the Center. You will also support the IMSA community by staffing the AI Center, offering guidance on ethical issues related to AI usage, and mentoring peers in understanding and applying AI ethics in research, education, and projects.
AI Innovation and Entrepreneurship Intern
In this position, you will work with the IN2 entrepreneurship manager to gain practical experience in AI-driven entrepreneurship. Your role will involve supporting initiatives that foster entrepreneurship competitions inside and outside IMSA.
You will engage with other AI Center Interns weekly, student leads, and advisory board members to help advance the overall development and administration of the Center. As part of your responsibilities, you will also help staff the AI Center, providing valuable support to students and community members involved in AI entrepreneurship initiatives, competitions, and program development.
