Participation Information Sheet
 
1.                Research Project Title:

Examining the relationship between mental toughness and perceived competence in tenpin bowlers.
 
2.               Invitation Paragraph:

You are being invited to take part in a research project. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take the time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.
 
3.                What is the purpose of the project?

This research is trying to find out whether there is a relationship between mental toughness and perceived competence in bowlers of all levels.
 
4.                Why have I been chosen?

You have been highlighted by the researcher as a high quality participant due to your participation in ten-pin bowling.
 
5.                Do I have to take part?

Taking part in the research is entirely voluntary. If you do decide to take part, you will be asked to sign a consent form. If you do decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time without giving reason, even after the data has been collected.
 
6.                What do I have to do?

All you need to do is answer a few questions about yourself along with two reliable and published questionnaires. This will take around 10 minutes.
 
7.                What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

There are no additional risks to your normal local league/ elite bowling for either you or other participants.
 
8.                What are the possible benefits of taking part?

By examining the findings of the research, it may be possible to learn something about the relationship between mental toughness and perceived competence as it has not been researched before. It may also help in distinguishing the weaknesses of bowlers and therefore find better ways to help reach optimal experience through greater mental toughness and perceived competence.
 
9.               What if something goes wrong?

10.         Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?

All information collected will be kept strictly confidential. Members of the research team will have access to your anonymised data; however, your name will not be able to be linked with the research materials and you will not be identified or identifiable in the report or reports that result from the research.
 
11.             What will happen to the results of the research project?

The results of this research project will be used for a postgraduate degree dissertation. It is also hoped that the findings will be published in an academic journal. If you would like a copy of the findings or more information on the findings you can contact Chelsea Piggott on the details below.
 
12.             Who is organising the research?

This research is organised by Chelsea Piggott, student of the University of Gloucestershire.
 
13.             Who has reviewed the project?

The project has been reviewed by the University of Gloucestershire Faculty of Applied Sciences Research Ethics Panel.
