Smart Home of the Future Application - Summer 2018

Complete and submit the form below to apply for the summer session of "Smart Home of the Future" (ECT 01-Physics for Building Science) at Laney College in Oakland. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE AND RETURN LATER TO THE APPLICATION; IF YOU NEED MORE TIME, WE SUGGEST THAT YOU COPY THE QUESTIONS INTO A SEPARATE DOCUMENT AND WORK ON YOUR RESPONSES OFFLINE. WHEN YOU'RE DONE, YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE INTO THE APPLICATION.

The application deadline is May 18, 2018. You must be a high school sophomore, junior, or graduating senior to apply; freshmen will be considered with a strong teacher recommendation.

The program is free and includes a stipend. For those who qualify and successfully complete the program, it is available for dual (high school and college) credit.

SMART HOME OF THE FUTURE (5-week summer program)
WHEN: Monday, June 25 - Thurs., July 26; classes are Monday - Thursday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm with Fridays reserved for field trips.
WHERE: Laney College, 900 Fallon St., Oakland, CA (accessible via BART Lake Merritt Station)

WHAT:
The aim of this program is to provide a strong foundation for entering into green building careers and trades. It covers principles of physics related to ENERGY USE IN BUILDING SYSTEMS and ENERGY EFFICIENCY.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A GENERAL PHYSICS COURSE.

YOU WILL:
- Explore building systems through fun, hands-on activities.
- Visit cool buildings for behind-the scenes tours.
- Learn about electricity, lighting, air conditioning & heating, and modern controls technology.
- Discover careers in architecture, mechanical engineering, facilities management, building technologies, and construction trades.
