Radio Volunteer Intake Form
The Hudson Mohawk Magazine (HMM) is a local news hour broadcast live every weekday from 6-7pm on WOOC LP 105.3 FM Troy and WOOS LP 98.9 FM Schenectady from The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY.

HMM is produced, engineered, and hosted by volunteers passionate about democracy and community journalism. There are many opportunities for anyone who wants to learn about broadcast journalism. Here is some quick information about the different roles:

PRODUCERS are community journalists who produce 10 minute news stories/ segments for HMM. Segments can be prerecorded or live interviews with guests in our studios, and/or produced in the field. HMM focuses on news, arts, culture, and happenings in the Capital Region. Producers have access to production equipment such as microphones, computers, and editing software. Producers are not required to work in the studio, but must either attend the weekly production meeting (preferred) on Monday nights at 7:07 PM, or communicate with the team and schedule their segments/guests in the production calendar online.

ENGINEERS are responsible for dependably communicating their availability, preparing the studio for broadcast and engineering the show live. Engineers also record, edit, and upload the show for rebroadcast. The time commitment for engineers is generally 5:30-7:30pm.

HOSTS are responsible for writing and practicing the script based on the producers' notes, spelling names phonetically, reading headlines, introducing segments, and interviewing live guests. Though hosts are not required to work on the script in the studio, it is preferred until you get the hang of it! Hosts are scheduled weekly, with the opportunity for regular days. The time commitment for hosts is generally 4:30-7:00 PM, and hosts must be in the studio 5:45-7:00pm.

We also have the opportunity for volunteers outside of these roles, such as writing headlines, writing social media posts for our podcast feed and Facebook page, being trainers and mentors, technical support and more!

If you're interested in volunteering with this exciting and unique experience, getting your voice on the radio, and telling stories from your community, please submit this form! PLEASE NOTE: WE ACCEPT ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE AND VOLUNTEERS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS. Learn new skills, make friends, and have fun! We look forward to hearing from you!

We love our Volunteers! We recognize that the Hudson Mohawk Magazine would not be possible without the community. As a volunteer you will be part of the Sanctuary family, and supported by long-time volunteers and limited staff. We are willing to make any possible accommodation, but it is important for HMM and everyone involved that volunteers are dependable and take the initiative to learn new skills. *
