SMILE Engineering Challenge Spring 2024 Mentor Volunteer Sign Up

Thank you for your interest in volunteering as a mentor for 1 hour or more for the upcoming SMILE Engineering Challenges. Please complete this form to sign up for the Middle School and/or High School Challenges on:

Middle School - March 22, 2024 (Design, Build, and Test a Crane and a Maglev Train)
High School - April 5, 2024 (Design, Build, and Test a Submarine Cooling System)

Challenge Site: URI Memorial Union, 50 Lower College Rd, Kingston, RI 02881

Role of the mentor
As a mentor, you are the sounding board for student ideas, not the problem-solver. You rotate groups a maximum of every 10 minutes to assist as many students as possible and encourage the students to rely on themselves. No taking over the student's projects (it's their time to struggle), instead, we encourage leading the students through brainstorming sessions and posing thought-provoking questions to aid them in their challenge. There will be SMILE staff present to assist you when needed.
