Yossi Matias serves as Vice President at Google and Head of Google Research. Under his leadership, world-class, globally distributed research teams undertake pioneering projects in machine learning, foundational algorithms, and applied models across domains such as health, education, and environmental science, as well as in generative artificial intelligence, data science, and quantum computing.

Previously, Matias was a key member of Google Search’s leadership team for over a decade, where he oversaw the development of strategic features and breakthrough technologies—including Autocomplete, Google Trends, and early conversational AI applications. He also founded and led Google’s Israel research center, expanding it to 2,500 employees, and played a pivotal role in the growth of teams in Bangalore and Africa. Over his nearly twenty-year tenure at Google, he has driven impactful research and innovation, guided product development, and initiated programs such as AI for Social Good, Crisis Response, Google for Startups Accelerator, and Google Arts & Culture.

Alongside his work at Google, Matias holds a professorship at Tel Aviv University, has served as a researcher at Bell Labs, and is a visiting professor at Stanford University. Author of over 200 scientific papers and holder of 75 patents, he is widely recognized for his contributions to large-scale data analysis, algorithm design, and online privacy protection. A recipient of the Gödel Prize and the Paris Kanellakis Award, and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Yossi Matias is celebrated as both a pioneer of the data era and a visionary leader who seamlessly integrates scientific research, technological innovation, and social impact.
