Connecting ecosystems: funding available from Startup Europe @Slush
How do we unlock our potential by bringing our hubs closer together?" was mentioned in State of the European Tech 2016 report from Atomico and Slush as one of the three challenges to be addressed to build sustainable startups ecosystems in Europe. Startup Europe announced a financial support programme (10Mio euros) to those enthusiasts who want to address this challenge.

Startup Europe is one initiative of the European Commission to build bridges among EU startups ecosystems and with international markets. The focus is on connecting people and ideas. It is not about new infrastructure. We want to help startup to soft land in other markets. Our goal is match making startups and investors wherever they are located in Europe. And if you need talent to continue growing, Startup Europe networks will help you to find the right skills anywhere in Europe

The European Startup scene is fragmented. There is a big difference in capital available between different member states. There is a big difference between the maturities of North-West hubs versus the ones in South-East. The education system is not incentivising and promoting the idea of building your own product and company. Research projects do not go through the business model canvas approach. Innovation and ecosystem approach is still not understood by traditional companies, family offices, governments, and corporates.
