The City of Carlton is updating its 20-year Transportation System Plan (TSP). The TSP guides all future transportation investments for our community and is a required policy document under State of Oregon law.
Carlton has limited transportation dollars, so careful prioritization is critical. The City Council also recognizes that every new project adds ongoing maintenance costs to the annual budget. This means decisions about where to invest must balance new improvements with preserving what we already have.
Under Carlton City Code, the responsibility for maintaining and installing sidewalks rests with adjacent property owners. Even so, the TSP will help guide how the City supports safe, connected routes through policies, partnerships, and priorities.
This update will help us answer key questions:
- How do we want our transportation system to serve our community?
- What do we have today, and is it serving everyone well?
- What investments are needed to create the future we want?
- How can we fund these projects, and what should be done first? Finally, question 5 will allow for any and all comments in long answer form.
Through this four-question survey and upcoming hearings, your input will help set priorities for how Carlton invests transportation dollars.
