VOICE is an environmental charity that works with local communities and advocates for the development of strong national policies on waste. One of the ways to achieve these aims is through the introduction of a Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS) on a national basis. In brief, this translates to adding a small deposit to the price of a bottle or can which, in theory, incentivises the purchaser to return the empty container to recoup their deposit. In countries with a DRS in place, this system has proven remarkably effective in terms of achieving high rates of recycling.
