    CDE Descriptions

    AGRICULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS: Media, media and more media! This contest is for you if you like social media, writing, and of course, agriculture. AGRICULTURAL ISSUES FORUM: What agricultural issues are you passionate about? In this contest, you can discover agricultural issues and create and present a plan to eliminate those issues. CROPS: In this contest, you can "grow all out" by identifying different types of crops and assessing their quality! AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS: Show off what you know about machinery and equipment operation for careers in food, agricultural and natural resource sciences! AGRICULTURAL SALES: Want to make millions? Learn how in this contest! You will learn all about how to sell and market agricultural products to the public. BEST INFORMED GREENHAND (BIG) QUIZBOWL: For all you first-year members (Greenhands), take a shot at this event! In this contest, you answer quiz questions about FFA in a team setting. CREED: Do you believe in the future of agriculture? Are you a freshman or 8th grade student with a passion for sharing why you love agriculture? If you answered yes to these questions, this is the contest for you! DAIRY EVALUATION: Who doesn't like cows? In this contest, you can look at some cows and evaluate them based off of their physical and genetic qualities! DAIRY FOODS: As seen in "Napoleon Dynamite," this contest allows you to eat, drink and enjoy various dairy products and evaluate them based off of taste and quality. DAIRY HANDLERS ACTIVITY: Take charge and lead some dairy cattle around an arena this spring at state convention! EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING: Are you a quick thinker? If so, give this contest a shot. You will research a wide variety of agricultural topics and have 30 minutes to prepare and deliver a speech on a topic drawn from a hat. FARM BUREAU DISCUSSION MEET: Are you a talker? Check this contest out and learn more about agricultural issues and topics through participating in this discussion-based panel competition! FISH AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT: Do you like to hunt or fish or are you interested in wildlife conservation? If so, put your skills to the test in this contest, where you can identify a lot of different wildlife species. FLORAL DESIGN: Put together and price out a stunning floral arrangement for the Region IV FFA Banquet! This contest is not state-qualifying. FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: Do you smell that? Check out this contest if you want to find a way to develop your food sensory, safety, preparation and marketing skills FLORICULTURE: Do you like arranging flowers and learning more about them? If so, check out this competition! You will have the opportunity to identify flowers as well as critique and even create your own floral arrangements or corsages! FORESTRY: Trees are great. Learn more about trees and how to properly identify and utilize trees. HORSE EVALUATION: Calling all horse fanatics - check out this contest to evaluate horses based off of physical and genetic characteristics. JOB INTERVIEW: In this contest, you can learn how to prepare for and participate in a job interview process. You will write a resume, cover letter and complete an application for a fictitious job and complete a mock interview. LIVESTOCK EVALUATION: From pigs to sheep, this contest has got it all! Learn how to evaluate different livestock based off of their genetic and physical characteristics. MARKETING PLAN: Considering a career in agribusiness? This contest is for you! Learn how to promote and market an agricultural product or service and give a team presentation to a panel of judges. MEATS EVALUATION: Anyway you slice (cut) it, this contest has got it all! Judge different cuts of meat based on their quality. NOVICE PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE: Are you a ninth grade student looking for a way to develop your leadership? Want to know more about how FFA meetings are run? Check out this contest to do both! NURSERY/LANDSCAPE: Want to have the best looking yard on your street? Get involved in this CDE to learn how to properly identify popular ornamental plant varieties and create eye-popping and logical landscape designs. PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE: Is there a second? Join the Parliamentary Procedure Team to learn how to actively take part in meetings. POULTRY EVALUATION: Which came first, the chicken or the egg? While you may not find out the answer to this question in the Poultry CDE, you definitely will learn how to grade eggs and evaluate poultry products. PREPARED PUBLIC SPEAKING: Where's the mic? If you love writing about agricultural topics and sharing your ideas with others, check out this contest! SMALL ANIMALS: How well do you know your pets and small animals? Find out in this contest that focuses on small animal health, nutrition and identification. SMALL ENGINES: In this content, show what you know about small engine operation, maintenance and operation. This contest is not state qualifying. SOILS EVALUATION: Can you dig it? In this competition, you will have the opportunity to look at different soil pits and evaluate them. TALENT: Show off your coolest talents at the Region IV Banquet this spring!
