The Fourth Annual Michigan Youth Future Flight Challenge (MYFFC) is a virtual, state-wide aerospace competition for students in 4th-8th grade. This event involves a Kick-Off on October 11th, 4 weeks of group work, with final presentations taking place November 8th. The mission is to create a unique, sustainable way of flight to solve 1 of 3 provided problem challenges.
This project will involve critical thinking in the areas of engineering, marketing & design, and business planning & sales. Our curriculum has been co-developed by educators across the state through MiSTEM programming, as well as Girl Scouts Michigan Shore to Shore, to align the work with girl scouts Business Jumpstart badges. Here is how you can help!
As a professional mentor in the industry with experience working in aerospace, you have a unique perspective and story. As an MYFFC mentor we are asking that you make a minimum time commitment of at least 2-6 hours (1 hour for a mentor info session, 1 hour per team assigned to you, and optional attendance at the event) between the weeks of October 11th - November 8th. Your guidance to the students through your meeting(s) will be used to share how you got to your role, what you do to support the industry, help answer questions, provide feedback on their projects and inspire them to DREAM BIG! Additional guidelines for mentors will be distributed towards September after we kick off registration for the event in July. A general Mentor time commitment is outlined below.
Mentor Time Commitment:
1 HOUR - Attendance at the Mentor info session Zoom call in October ahead of the Kickoff Event (Optional but strongly encouraged – we will work with schedule conflicts & info session is recorded)
