Are you interested in helping someone become a United States citizen?
The MIRA Coalition runs bi-monthly citizenship workshops throughout Boston as part of the Greater Boston Citizenship Initiative. At the workshop you will help eligible green-card holders complete their application for citizenship, share information about the naturalization process, and direct them to study materials for the citizenship exam. All volunteers attend a training (approx. 1 hour) detailing the citizenship application and the specific procedures for the workshop. After you are trained, you are welcome to attend any workshops that fit your schedule. The workshops are offered on a bi-monthly basis, year-round.
The day of the workshop, there is a short training review in the morning before participants arrive, supervision by MIRA staff and attorneys throughout the day, procedures to ensure thorough review of applications by trained staff, and breakfast and lunch are provided to all volunteers. We're especially looking for volunteers with legal experience. However, if not, we are happy to train and supervise you to volunteer in positions that do not require a legal background. Volunteers with additional language skills are encouraged to participate.
Trainings for ALL new volunteers are offered at the MIRA office on the 9th floor of 105 Chauncy St, Boston, MA 02111:
Wednesday, July 24th, from 5:30 to 6:30pm
Thursday, July 25th, from 5:30 to 6:30pm
