Heritage and Historic Preservation Advisory Board Information and Member Application
The purpose of the Kanab City Heritage and Historic Preservation Advisory Board is to advise the Mayor, City Manager and the City Council regarding City history and historic preservation. The Board reviews and refers nominations for historic landmark designation to the City Council and promotes historic preservation. The Board also organizes walking tours, organizes heritage programming, promotes local history, and develops architectural surveys. The board will also advise the Director of Kanab City Museums as to matters pertaining to historic preservation when requested.

The Kanab City Heritage and Historic Preservation Advisory Board consist of up to seven (7) regular members and a City Council member as an ex-officio liaison. If possible, at least two board members shall be professionals, as defined by National Park Service regulations, from the disciplines of history, archaeology, planning, architecture or architectural history. (However, lack of professional experience should not deter citizens from applying.)

Each member is to be appointed by the Kanab Mayor with the advice and consent of the Kanab City Council. All Board members shall be residents of Kanab City or owners of property within city limits.

The terms of office for the seven (7) regular Board members shall be for four (4) years. Board members shall serve without compensation.

The Board may meet once a month (either in person or via online meeting applications) but at least quarterly. The date, hour, and location of the meeting shall be set by the Board at its annual meeting. Board members may be required to attend other meetings or volunteer at special events to promote work of the committee.

The board will identify, document, preserve, and interpret the City's historic resources to promote awareness, understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the City's heritage and foster community identity and civic pride.
