Alaska Gardens Internship at the Georgeson Botanical Garden
The Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) would like to offer paid, for-credit internships to students with an avid interest in local plant life and how these plants and the Alaska Native communities have supported each other through generations. The internship experience will involve hands-on learning about plants relevant in the context of Alaska Native cultures; the plants' cultural histories and current uses, identification, ecology and potential cultivation.

The internship course is a collaboration of the Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) in Fairbanks, the Alaska Forestry and Experimental Farm (AFES) in Fairbanks and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Ethnobotany Program (EBOT). iT will take place at GBG and will be supervised by staff and faculty from all three units. The academic credit will be issued by the Ethnobotany Program (EBOT).

CATALOG DESCRIPTION OF THE INTERNSHIP
(The internship has a course designator as the students will earn one college credit)
In EBOT 193 students explore human-plant relationships with a focus on plants that are relevant in Alaska Native cultures. The interdisciplinary internship course is based on experiential learning, knowledge shared by Indigenous Elders and Ethnobotany. The course introduces students to horticulture and the concept of gardens as living plant collections.
