Hello, I'm Tammy Joslyn, Director for Operation Blessing.
This year we are holding our 11th Annual “ONE DAY TO SERVE” and we want you to join us!
What is “ONE DAY TO SERVE”? It is a one-day event across the Seacoast Area where 11 neighborhoods are transformed by teams of, church groups, business men and women, youth groups, and families eager to helping those in need. How do we “transform a neighborhood” in one day? By picking up trash, raking, spreading mulch or loam, and painting. The best part is this event is: Local - within minutes from where you live Easy – email or call to sign up, then show up to serve FREE – T-Shirt, Food, and FUN
With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to us, our families, and our community. Volunteers are often the glue that holds our community together. Volunteering allows us to connect to our community and make it a better place.Did you know, volunteering is a two-way street, and it can benefit you and your family as much as the cause you choose to help? Volunteering and helping others can help you reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. Giving in even simple ways can help others and those in need as well as improve your health and happiness. Serving connects people to people in a natural, easy, low-risk, high energy way. Especially by someone who is smiling and having fun. Serving wins the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person’s heart, often in a profound way as it bypasses ones mental defenses. Most people are willing to rake someone’s yard (low risk). The gratitude is seen in the typical reaction, “Oh, thank you!” “This is so nice!” I can’t believe it’s free!” and, “Why are you doing this?” resulting in an open door and an open heart.
Matthew 25:40(NIV) “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love and hope, in a practical way. There is power and impact by, “showing love in practical ways.” Again and again we’ve seen relationships born from these simple acts of kindness. We believe very strongly in the power of serving and the impact that has on our community. ONE DAY TO SERVE is not just a day of service, it’s a miracle. Will you join us on April 27th to serve our community and build new friendships in Christ?
