2026 General Volunteer Sign-Up
We're on the lookout for volunteers to help at the Urban Indigenous Collective Community Center!!

As a volunteer, you'll play a crucial role in assisting with various events held at our center and beyond. Whether it's setting up for beading circle or checking people in to our Indigenous People's Day fundraiser, your support will contribute to the success of our events. No specific skills are required, just a willingness to lend a hand and be part of our vibrant community.

Unable to attend?
If you can’t make any of the scheduled training sessions, a link will be provided to schedule a one-on-one training with me so you can still get fully onboarded.  Reach out at malia@urbanindigenouscollective.org

Volunteer Attendance & Cancellation Policy

At UIC, we value the time, energy, and labor that volunteers, staff, and community members contribute to our work. Because our events rely on volunteer support, consistent communication is essential.

No-Shows & No Response

Volunteers who sign up for a shift and do not attend without notifying the Volunteer Coordinator create gaps that are often difficult to fill at the last minute.

  • One no-show without communication will result in a check-in conversation.

  • Two no-shows without communication may result in being removed from the active volunteer roster.

  • Continued no-shows or lack of response may lead to offboarding from volunteer opportunities at UIC.

Cancellations

We understand that emergencies and scheduling conflicts happen.

  • Volunteers who notify us in advance that they can no longer attend will not be penalized for occasional cancellations.

  • However, signing up and canceling repeatedly impacts event planning and staffing.

  • Volunteers who sign up and cancel three (3) separate times without participating in a volunteer shift may be removed from the active volunteer roster.

Making Up a Missed Shift

If a volunteer cancels in advance but participates in a future volunteer opportunity, this will not negatively impact their standing as a volunteer.

Our goal is not to be punitive, but to ensure that we can effectively support our community while respecting the time and commitments of everyone involved.

This version emphasizes accountability while keeping the tone aligned with community care and relationship-building.
