June 29, Wednesday, 5:30 - 8:00 in the Fellowship Hall
Cool off with dinner and a movie at Knollwood! We’ll enjoy sandwiches, sides, and dessert while watching the music documentary Summer of Soul and discussing the inspiring power of music during times of struggle and unrest. Earlier this year, Summer of Soul won the Oscar for Best Documentary and the Grammy for Best Music Film.
Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park. The footage was largely forgotten-- until now. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension and more. Rated PG-13.
