The Hawthorn Summer Music Camp is seeking hard-working high school and college musicians to work as counselors in the following areas: one-on-one coach/mentor, sectional leader, activities facilitator, and all-around helper. These employees must be very proficient on their instruments and have an interest in helping younger students.

Camp dates and staff hours are July 16 – 27, 8:00 am – 2:30 pm. There is a mandatory meeting of all camp counselors on Thursday, July 12, at 1:00 pm at Hawthorn South Middle School. We will be setting up the rehearsal areas and will meet to discuss employee expectations and commitment.  

You must finalize your work and summer school schedules before you apply for employment at Hawthorn Band/Orchestra Camp. Please communicate with your parents before applying and committing to this two-week program. Employees are expected to work the entire two-week camp. We will not be accepting all applicants and will choose the most qualified students in each instrument group based on camp needs and your director's recommendation.

New this year - there will be a brief counselor training session provided. This is mandatory for all full-time counselors and optional for volunteers. More information will be available soon. Also new in 2017, those wanting to be paid for working all ten days of camp are required to complete district employment paperwork, including tax forms. These forms will be available at the counselor training as well as the mandatory meeting on July 13th. It must be completed and returned no later than Monday, July 17th.
