2. The second proposed program would be Literacy Launch. Through our Literacy Launch class, the Arete astronaut literacy team will explore new places (incorporating social studies learning) and also investigate different creatures and aspects of nature (incorporating science learning). Our expedition will start with the letter "A" and each week we will focus on a different letter of the alphabet. We will do fun and engaging read-alouds, book studies, spelling/phonics, penmanship practice, and writing surrounding these explorations. We will also incorporate art and some hands-on activities as part of our literacy adventures. Our time will be very integrated and thematic. Let’s launch into literacy! Note: This class will be appropriate for kindergartners who are beginning to read through 2nd graders who are not yet fluent readers. If this will be your child’s second year in our class, know that we will work on some different topics and activities than last year to keep things interesting. K-2nd Grades (Kinder students should know all letter names and majority of sounds and demonstrate an interest in reading basic words and should be comfortable with writing/formation of all letters.) Literacy Launch (1st and 2nd grades) has a focus that is perfect for emerging readers.
By completing this form, families are committing for one semester from 9am-12pm, for a total of $215 out of Curriculum/Enrichment Funds for Tuesdays and $225 for Wednesdays. Wednesday classes will run from August 27- December 17 (No Class October 21 and November 26.) All students should come prepared with a water bottle and a healthy snack that does not contain nuts.
