Dear President Biden, Acting Secretary Su, and Assistant Secretary Parker:

As a [healthcare professional, business owner, academic, faith leader, leader of X community organization, etc.], I write to express my strong support for the Biden Administration’s recently proposed Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) rule, which would protect approximately 36 million workers from dangerous heat conditions fueled by climate change.

This year, we’ve experienced the hottest days on record, and 2024 is projected to be the hottest year ever, as a result of fossil fuel pollution, which is causing temperatures to rise. Tens of millions of indoor and outdoor workers, disproportionately those of color, are experiencing firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change in the form of extreme heat. This administration’s proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings rule will ensure that employers take measures to address excessive heat conditions, such as establishing requirements for rest breaks, drinking water, and training for the signs of heat-related illness, among other requirements, to advance workplace safety, as heat waves become more frequent due to climate change.

These protections couldn’t come quickly enough. Extreme heat is already impacting communities across the country, including my community. As a [fill in the blank X community leader] I’m seeing [fill in the blank OR select an option according to who you represent].  It is crucial OSHA acts now to ensure climate resilient and safe workplaces.

The Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings rule will prevent further heat-related deaths, injuries, illnesses, and missed work days in workplaces across the country. Actions to protect people experiencing the impacts of climate change are critical as are actions that this administration has taken to address the root of the problem: fossil fuel pollution that is fueling the climate crisis.

As a strong proponent for [climate action AND/OR climate justice AND/OR public health AND/OR workers’ rights] I support this rule and encourage further action to tackle climate change and the extreme weather that harms communities. I urge you to continue the climate resiliency and worker safety progress that has been made and finalize the proposed rule.
