The AUA College of Science and Engineering in collaboration with MIT will be hosting a DIY workshop for building a Geiger Counter and measuring ionizing radiation with it on January 24-28, 2022. The classes will take place at AUA starting at 4:30 pm and will last 2-4 hours.

In this rigorous yet enjoyable course you will build and test your own Geiger Counter, and in doing so, explore different types and sources of radiation, how to detect them, how to shield them and how to accurately count / measure their activity.

Recommended skills:
Basic knowledge of statistics and probability
Basics of physics
Basic knowledge of electrical circuits (e.g. transistors, capacitors, resistors)
Coding in python and ability to work using the command line
Proficiency in English

The materials will be provided by AUA. The students are expected to bring a laptop, and note-taking material (pencil and paper).

Space is limited, and the participants are selected based on a review of the application below.
