Audition for Beth Durnie

In-person audition: Saturday, June 21st from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm @DJD Dance Centre

Dance Style: Contemporary Ballet

Piece Description: I am interested in exploring external aspects of "fitting in" and the relationship between expressions of confidence and vulnerability. I am interested in potentially using pointe shoes for part of the piece, but this will depend on the dancer's interest and comfort.

Piece length: 7-9 minutes

Casting: 2 dancers 

Dance Level: Advanced/ Professional

Approximate total rehearsal hours: 27 + tech rehearsals 

Dancer remmunaration: $30 per hour + $100 per performance.

Dancers MUST be available for the following dates:

  • Tech rehearsal: Approximately 5 hours between Wednesday November 12th and Thursday November 13th between 9 am and 9 pm (hours to be confirmed in September)

  • Show Dates: Friday, November 14th 7:00 pm, Saturday November 15th 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, Sunday November 16th 2:00 pm

Rehearsals

Sundays September 14th, 21st, 28th, October 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th, November 2nd and 9th

Time: 9:00 am to 12 pm 

Saturday November 8th, from 2 to 4 pm 

Location: Evolved Movement Arts- 4005 9 St SE, Calgary, AB T2G 3C7

* Please Note: Rehearsal dates and locations are subject to change. If changes are required, they will be made in consideration of dancers, choreographer, and studio availability. However, we expect all selected dancers to be available for the rehearsal and performance dates as outlined in the audition call.

- 20-minute contemporary phrase (not on pointe)
- 10-minute improvisation segment with an optional pointe component
Dancers who feel comfortable are encouraged to bring their pointe shoes. Pointe work is optional and not required to participate in the audition. *
Video Audition
Please submit a videom link that includes:
- 1-minute contemporary solo
- 30-second improvisation on pointe shoes (if comfortable). For the improvisation, use your feet to draw your full name on the floor. Play with tempo, dynamics, and different textures.
Are you available during all the dates indicated above? 
Dancers can audition for multiple choreographers but will only be cast on one piece. Are you auditioning for another choreographer? If so, please indicate your preference.
