2023 YRP High School Mentorship Program Mentor Application
Our goal is to establish a peer mentorship program throughout the school year where high school students in the Ithaca area can (1) shadow a graduate or undergraduate student in a Cornell laboratory (2) attend a monthly class on science communication, and (3) participate in dinner discussions where professors and scientists at Cornell discuss and share their work with the students over dinner at one of the dining halls. During this peer mentorship program, high school students will become immersed in scientific culture, will learn fundamental research techniques that will help them become competitive applicants in the college admission process and later on as freshmen when trying to find a research position, and will help them become better acquainted with the scientific process and scientific peer-reviewed literature. Upon completion of the program, the students will prepare and present a scientific poster at the symposium, where parents, professors, mentors, and the Ithaca community can attend to see the work of the students.
