The Winners Circle Running Club has received invitational waivers for the Boston Marathon. These invitational waivers bypass the normal B.A.A. time qualification requirements, but you still pay the B.A.A. entry fee and any additional charges from the Boston Marathon. You must be an active WCRC member in order to apply for and receive one of these waivers.
Please do not ask for an invitational entry unless you are certain that you want to register for and run the Boston Marathon and you are willing to pay the fee to the B.A.A. Invitational entries cannot be transferred or deferred once accepted. If you are selected to receive a waiver you MUST register for the race under an established B.A.A. Athlete’s Village account otherwise the waiver will be forfeited. As a club we don’t want to forfeit any of the waivers.
If you are motivated to run Boston and want to be considered for one of the WCRC club invitational waivers, please fill out the application form below. To be as fair as possible, the WCRC Board has agreed to use the responses to this questionnaire as the primary source of information for selecting the recipients. Please supply the requested information as completely as possible, even though you may be "sure" that the board already knows what you have contributed/achieved, over the years as a WCRC member.
*MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!!!!! If you would like to apply for an Invitational Waiver please complete the below application by 12/03/2024 at 6:00pm. DON’T BE LATE… LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Only applications that are filled out fully and submitted prior to the deadline will be considered.
Criteria for Applicants:
In general, some of the criteria the Board takes into account when casting a vote for who should receive an invitational waiver includes but is not limited to: volunteer service to the club (races worked, etc.); participation in club events (attending club meetings, running on WCRC teams, etc.); demonstrated ability to run a marathon; motivation to run Boston (previous attempts to qualify for Boston at other marathons, etc.). Activities are considered for the prior two (2) calendar years.
In calculating an initial applicant score, each piece of criteria is assigned a point value. Criteria for volunteering, club racing, etc are worth various amounts of points based on overall service to the club and club needs throughout the year. Once an applicant score is derived, the Board uses the score as their primary input for voting. Should a Board member apply for a waiver, that Board member will recuse themselves of all voting for the year. Once the vote is complete, the recipients will be announced at the next monthly membership meeting.
If demand for club bibs is high and the quality of applicants is high, another factor would be whether the applicant has recently received a club bib for Boston. The Board strives to provide opportunities for a diverse set of applicants, holding all other factors as equal.
