Clermont Elementary School Technology Agreement (2026–2027)

Today's students are tomorrow's workforce. By one popular estimate, 65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely new job types that do not yet exist. To prepare students for this, each student receives an FCPS-issued laptop (1- 4) or Chromebook (5-6). This technology provides students with the opportunity to develop real-world skills that will be essential as they grow up. This year, Kindergarten students will not be issued a device.

With this opportunity comes responsibility. Students are expected to use the technology ethically, respect the privacy and work of others, and follow established rules for safety and security. In addition to the FCPS Digital Citizenship lessons Clermont emphasizes the following:

  1. Responsible use of technology ○ Students should use their laptops for FCPS learning programs. It may not be used for personal activities like streaming video services, gaming, or social media. ○ Students must use their laptops responsibly. This includes treating others with respect in an online environment, respecting others beliefs and opinions, and honoring academic honesty. ○ Students are advised that the inappropriate use of a student laptop is a violation of student disciplinary rules and disciplinary action may be imposed as stated in the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R).
  2. Caring for your laptop ○ The FCPS student device is valuable and should be treated appropriately. It should not be thrown, dropped, or treated in any way that may cause it to be crushed or damaged.
    ■    Cost of replacement/damaged laptop or Chromebook: $616
    ■    Cost of replacement for Chromebook charger: $29 ■    Cost of replacement for laptop charger: $34 ○ When carried outside to any outdoor learning space the device must be protected and held with two hands.
    ○ Student laptops should be powered off at the end of each day.
    ○ Students should restart their computers frequently, as directed by the teacher, to ensure all updates are installed.
    ○ Do not write on, draw on, or put stickers on the device.

Parents and Guardians, please review this information with your child, and complete this form. We do understand that accidents happen. This guidance is provided to hopefully prevent any intentional damage done to and with the school issued laptop.
