Welcome to the
Carpinteria State Beach field trip sign-up form! Please carefully read and answer the
questions below to schedule an in-person field trip.
Our field trips are from 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays starting October 2, 2025 and ending May 22, 2026. We kindly suggest arriving
at 9:30 AM so students get a bathroom break and have plenty of time to complete
scheduled programming and stations.
We can accommodate up to 55 students maximum for naturalist led tours and 25 students maximum for a tidepool program. For group sizes over 60 students we offer a self-guided tour. Please see field trip descriptions below.
NATURALIST-LED TOURS (55 or less students)
- Marine Animal Adaptations:
Students will learn how ocean animals use their bodies and behavior to survive in
oceanic ecosystems.
- Tar, Sand, and Rocks - Geology at CSB: Students will learn
how tar is formed, and its historical and present uses. We will also discuss other geological features at our park, including rocks, sand, and the effects of coastal erosion.
- Tidepool Animal Adaptations: Students will discover the diverse organisms found in our tidepools and how they survive the highs and lows of living in the tidal zones. PLEASE NOTE: This program is offered to groups sizes of 25 students or fewer and occurs only at low tide.
SELF-GUIDED TOUR (60 - 90 students)
- Natural and Cultural History of Carpinteria State Beach: Students will start at the amphitheater with a park interpreter introducing the natural and cultural history at Carpinteria State Beach. Teachers and students will then break into smaller groups to
complete an independent self-guided tour, which includes visiting five learning stations and
understanding some of the natural and historical features at our park. Stations may include water quality testing at the estuary, the history of tar, sandy beach exploration, or the tidepools.
