Keep Artmosphere Open
KEEP ARTMOSPHERE OPEN

It is with heavy hearts that we have read of the recent trials and tribulations of Artmosphere and its owner, Beryl Moody.   “Berry” and her many employees have helped create a beacon of culture that reflects the rich fabric of this community. Local musicians, bands and artists are showcased on a daily basis, giving rise to many now acclaimed nationally touring acts such as the Givers and Royal Teeth. Artmosphere has provided a home for performances from countless Grammy winners, nominees, local favorites including Chubby Carrier, Jo-el Sonnier, Bonsoir Catin, Cedric Watson, Pine Leaf Boys, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Snarky Puppy, Henry Gray, Lil Buck Senegal, David Egan, Roddie Romero, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Brass Bed, Feufollet, Soul Creole, Sunny Duval, Bas Clas as well as renowned Louisiana music of Cyril Neville, Papa Gros Funk, Meter’s George Porter Jr and Russel Batiste, legendary Stanton Moore, Bonerama, Soul Rebels Brass Band,  Revivalists. Artmosphere has helped to support the up and coming musician, the local artist, the struggling poet, and the fledgling songwriter. No other venue in Lafayette or the surrounding area has arguably done more to foster local creativity and community; this is not the type of establishment that should be shuttered.

Not only has Artmosphere been a supporter of the arts – musical, graphic and culinary [we grow our own herbs] it has also provided a hospitable and welcoming environment for patrons of these arts.  It boasts a peaceful, law abiding environment and has been a good neighbor in the downtown area. Art showings occur frequently, fundraisers and benefits for local causes are held, and pairings with such entities as ULL, theater groups, and foreign language groups are a regular part of the atmosphere. Cajun dancing often accompanies the music being played, some of which happens spontaneously.

We often proudly proclaim that our art, food, and music are at the heart of what makes our community so unique and attractive.  Artmosphere personifies these assets, all under one roof and in one venue. It has grown from a little old house into a unique artist's community that makes our city a better place. We implore you, our local leaders, to give Artmosphere the attention and support needed to remain open.
