The Eating Disorder Resource Centre of SSMU's Virtual Support Group Services Sign-Up Form
If you are interested in The EDCSSMU's support group services, please input your information here.

Our support groups are completely free of charge and open to anyone - you don't need to be a McGill student and you don't need any sort of diagnosis to attend. Our centre offers support for anyone who feels they could benefit from our services - we are not here to make diagnoses or evaluations.

Support groups are facilitated by two of our trained volunteers. They have received training in active listening, peer mental health support, eating disorders and disordered eating, and anti-oppressive practice. They are not therapists, psychologists, social workers or psychiatrists. These groups are made up of two facilitators and other users. For individual support services, sign up for our forum! To find out more, email eatingdisorder@ssmu.ca.

Group usually runs for about two hours, with a 15-minute break halfway through. If folks want to wrap it up before then, though, that's always a possibility - this time is not set in stone. What is discussed in group is guided by attendees - facilitators are simply present to facilitate discussion (to clarify: these groups will not cover any psychoeducation, or follow any workbooks, etc.).

Our mandate means that we aim to provide our participants with anti-oppressive, non-directional, non-judgmental, inclusive, confidential support. We ask that in group settings, participants respect confidentiality, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable sharing. We ask that participants maintain respect for fellow attendees, and that abusive language is not used. Using discriminatory or abusive language will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave a session or immediately put in a break out room with a facilitator.

We also ask that no use of specific numbers regarding food, weight, activity, etc. be used in session (e.g. calories, weight, number of hours done of running, number of times a behaviour such as purging is done in a day, etc.).

Support groups are taking place on a weekly basis on on Sundays from 10:00 AM - 12: 00 PM via Zoom. We do ask all participants to keep their cameras on during the sessions. So as to respect your privacy, we offer you to change your displayed name on Google Meets should you want to.

Does this timing work for you? *
Would you like to do an intake?  *
Intakes allow you to meet facilitators before group, learn about group, express any needs and ask any questions before attending.
If yes, when are you available for the next two weeks?
When attending support groups, intake sessions, or accessing the support, do you have any accessibility needs? Please let us know below
For example, if you are more comfortable writing in the online support groups rather than talking, having less people in the support group, not having access to a stable internet connection, any cognitive, physical, sensory disabilities, etc.
If you have suggestions or requests, how could we best address and accommodate those needs when offering these support groups and services to you?
Feel free to ignore this question if you do not have any directions or suggestions!
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
Please email support-eating-disorders@ssmu.ca for any questions! We will reach out to you by email with more information and request for an intake session if you indicated interest in having one. Stay safe y'all!
