How physically active do you want to be?

1. Easiest: Non-camping journeys, optional hikes, little elevation gain or loss. Mostly Passenger Travel. Wildlife viewing from cars.

2. Easy to Moderate: Urban walking and standing for up to 20 minutes at a time. Walking and standing for a total of 4 hours in one day. Other physical activities may include, level street bicycling, walking on trails to get to a picnic shelter or wildlife viewing shelter. IMBA Trail Difficulty: Easiest.

3. Moderate: Urban walking, or day hikes, and work hikes. Up to (4 to 6 hours) a day. Terrain is rolling countryside, and occasional steep trails.IMBA Trail Difficulty: Easy.

4. Moderate to Strenuous: Day hikes (6 to 9 hours), mountainous terrain (up to 3,000ft Elevation). Repeated elevation gains and losses (hiking up or down 2,000-3,000 feet) on most hikes. IMBA Trail Difficulty: More Difficult. Snowshoe hiking for 2-4 hours. Cross County Skiing for 4+ hours.

5. Strenuous: Full-day hikes (9-12 hours), mountainous terrain (up to 5,000ft Elevation). Repeated elevation gains and losses (hiking up or down 3,500-4,500 feet) on most hikes. IMBA Trail Difficulty: Very Difficult. Snowshoe hiking for 4+ hours, with little breaks. Cross Country Skiing for 6+ hours with little breaks.

6. Very Strenuous: Full-day hikes (12 hours), mountainous terrain (up to 7,000ft Elevation). Repeated elevation gains and losses (hiking up or down 3,500-4,500 feet. IMBA Trail Difficulty: Extremely Difficult. Snowshoe hiking for 6+ hours, with little breaks. Cross Country Skiing for 9 hours.
