Interested in becoming a Volunteer Outreach Worker?

We are currently accepting applications and we will be training our next batch of volunteers on Saturday February 31st from 9am-5pm and Sunday, March 1st 9am-12pm

The meet and greet times are scheduled for:
➢ Tuesday February 17th, 6pm-7pm
and Monday February 23rd, 6pm-7pm

Location: Berkeley Free Clinic (2339 Durant Ave. Berkeley, CA 94704)

We will have a brief phone interview with you the week after the meet and greet with the training taking place a few days after the meet and greet

As an outreach worker for the Berkeley Builds Capacity project, you will work with our outreach team in a variety of settings, speaking with a wide range of students and young people in your local community about HIV and sexual health. You will further the safer sex message of the BBC Project by distributing condoms and informational brochures, encouraging your peers and community members to get tested, and talking to people about the health disparities in their community.

The time commitment for this is

➢ One meet and greet for the project during our period of recruitment.
➢ Trainings of one full day Saturday 2/31 and one morning 3/1 totaling 10 hours. You must attend both days of training.
➢ 25 hours of volunteer time a quarter
➢ Attendance at monthly outreach team meetings on the second Monday of each month from 6-8PM
➢ You must be able to commit to volunteering for 6 months.

Who is an outreach worker?

An outreach worker is someone who listens, educates, and helps people get the information and care they need to take care of their health. Our outreach workers are as diverse as our community and have passion, follow-through, and dedication. They are friendly and non-judgmental, and are committed to improving their work, and improving the health of their community. We welcome everyone! We especially encourage 18-24 year olds, and particularly LGBTQIA people and people of color to apply.

What is our selection process?

To be considered as an applicant, you must attend a meet and greet, where you can learn more about the project and sign up for a phone interview; however, the meet and greet will have no bearing on the selection process. The application that is comprised of the questions below must be completed by the stated deadline. We will consider your online application and interview responses when making a decision about whether you will make a good fit for our team.
