1. The
purpose of this award is to recognize the NELMSC swimming coach who has demonstrated outstanding coaching qualities, club development, and overall NELMSC participation.
2. The criteria for the award are as follows:
a. The coach and club have been members of NELMSC during the year under consideration.
b. A Coach of the Year award recipient may win this award only twice within a 5-year period.
c. The award will be considered firstly, since January 1 of the preceding year and secondly, over the coaches' career with his or her club.
d. Outstanding contributions to clubs and individuals are measured by competitive and non-competitive factors, such as:
i.) Accomplishments over the past year (club and individual) including but not limited to club size and growth, club participation and results at national, regionals, open water, and postal events, records set, All Americans and Top Ten ranked swimmers.
ii.) Personal involvement in publications, articles, clinics, and lectures. Submit copies of articles with publication information and/or provide clinic dates with their location(s) and number of participants in attendance. Include dates and topics of presentations and / or speaking engagements.
iii.) Contributions to USMS and NELMSC. Include meets hosted, clinics run, LMSC positions held and other pertinent information.
iv.) Long-term contributions to Masters Swimming: include number of years as a Masters Coach, special accomplishments, etc.
3. Nomination and Selection:
a. There shall be no more than one (1) award presented in a given year.
b. A nomination announcement shall be published in the NELMSC newsletter and displayed on the New England Masters website: https://www.nelmsc.org/awards and the New England Masters Swimming Social Media pages including Facebook and Instagram
c. Any NELMSC member or club may make a nomination by providing to the NELMSC Awards and Recognition Chair a written statement based on the above criteria by the published deadline. *Nominations MUST INCLUDE contact information for both the nominee and the nominator.
*The nomination form AND up to four (4) supporting letters from registered NELMSC swimmers must be submitted to the Awards and Recognition Chair, Tara Mack, by the nomination END DATE noted above.
d. The Chair shall appoint a selection committee consisting of 3 or 5 members as needed. The NELMSC A&R chair and committee as designated, shall make the selection prior to the first meeting following the nomination deadline.
e. The award shall be announced at the Annual NELMSC Awards and HOF Induction Celebration held each year on the Sunday of the last weekend of September.

f. Once the award is announced, a NELMSC representative shall, by July 1st, send all documentation for the winning Coach of the Year, in the format requested by USMS, to the USMS Coaches Committee for consideration as the USMS Coach of the Year.
