Theme: Using Technology to Hold Governments to Account

Governments often use traditional forms of communication to share fiscal and other information with the public. However, in today’s fast paced technological world, governments are also beginning to use technology for information dissemination. Those who are tech-savvy and are usually quick to react and interact with the information through social media. However, for many citizens, accessing, interacting and utilising the information available to make their wishes known is still a challenge. For citizens to demand improved accountability and greater transparency, they require access to information and knowledge about policy options. They need the tools to hold those in power to account.

This month’s Hacks/Hackers Nairobi meet-up will  seek to address the following questions
How are citizens, civil society organizations and media using technology to make governments accountable?
How can technology be used to demand for better governance and accountability?

Hack/Hackers Nairobi (#HHNBO), is a community of journalists and techies who hold monthly meet-ups to discuss issues that affect their work.
