Opportunity
As part of this year's Southampton Pride and Co-Creating Public Space, we are seeking between 6–9 participants for a series of online workshops led by Tentacular Spectacular, a touring theatrical show that stages the work of trans-drag artists that have created queer cryptid avatars for themselves. Produced in partnership with Artsadmin.
Artist Oozing Gloop (and facilitated with multiple guest mentors) to explore the DIY creation of queer cryptids.
Cryptid
definition: an obscure undocumented creature, typically originating from folklore.
Queer
defined here as: not participating in the obligatory order of reproductive cis-hetero-patriarchial imperialism
In the Virtual Pride Creature Feature we are situating these performers and their works in a digital project. To explore the capacity of this project, we are also workshopping the multitudinous creation of queer cryptids with zoom workshop participants, exclusively in cyberspace. Using a combination of filters, green screen, drag, SFX prosthetic make-up (and more). These videos will feature in the digital project alongside the Tentacular Spectacular artists.
Outcomes
Videos recorded within Zoom of lengths varying between 1 second and 3 minutes that will capture an as yet undocumented queer cryptid, and its behaviour. These will likely be montaged into a short video piece or featured as GIF’s within the digital project.
This workshop is appropriate for people with an interest (or curiosity) in drag, post-humanism, primordial monstrosity, digital performance-making, image-making and those interested in exploring new collectivity, specifically frogs, mushroom-core, and goblin mode.
Artist fees
This is a paid opportunity, and participants will be paid £100 per workshop.
