Wingman Wednesdays at the Boulder Lab

On Wednesdays, all active duty members get to bring a “wingman” to the Boulder Lab for free between 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. The wingman does not have to be active duty. This is a walk-in event, no registration needed.

Intro to AT Skiing (Registration Closed)

Tuesday, January 9th

Join Outdoor Recreation as we learn the ins and outs of alpine touring skiing. There are techniques and skills that you will need if you are ever interested in shredding up some backcountry powder and this course will teach you the fundamentals. Help extend your ski season and be introduced to the backcountry.

Mountain Snowshoe and Soak (Registration Closed)

Saturday, January 13th from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Price: $45 (includes transportation, guide, snowshoes & trekking poles)
*Not included in price: $25 cash or credit/debit for the hot springs if you wish to soak
Ages: 14+

You’ll travel up a scenic highway thru Jemez Pueblo to reach the Valle Caldera Preserve for a snowshoe hike. This stunningly beautiful area with a super volcano at its heart is home to elk, eagles and was the filming location for Longmire and The Lone Ranger. This hike is rated as moderate at approximately three miles and 500 feet of elevation gain. Participants must be in good physical condition and tolerate high altitude. After the hike and a picnic lunch, we’ll stop at the village of Jemez Springs to warm up at a local commercial hot spring for a one hour soak. This outing is appropriate for children 14 and up when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This is a great way to get a different perspective on the Land of Enchantment.

Dog Sledding in Pagosa Springs (Registration Closed)

Outdoor Recreation will be making the drive to relax in Pagosa Springs, nestled in the San Juan mountains of Colorado. Our first day we will drive up there and experience the hot springs that gave Pagosa its name. On our second day we will go dog sledding with our friends at San Juan Sled dogs before heading home. Price includes a shared hotel room, entrance into the Hot Springs, Dog Sledding, transportation, and guide.

Group Dog Training Class (Registration Closed)

Looking for a way to train and socialize your pup? Join experienced trainer and behavioral specialist, Pauly Kostora of PKK9 New Mexico for our bi-weekly group dog training classes where you will learn modern techniques on how to train and socialize your dog. This class is for pups that are at least 5 months and older. Proof of up to date vaccinations is required. There is limited space so sign up now!

Active Duty Climbing Day (Registration Closed)

Ever wanted to try rock climbing? Join Outdoor Recreation during our Saturday Bouldering Special! All Active Duty and their Dependents climb for Free! The price includes guidance, a day pass into the boulder lab, and shoe rentals.

Backcountry AT Ski Day (Registration Closed)

Saturday, January 20th
7:00 am - 2:00 pm
Cost: $50 Regular ($10 if you have your own gear)
Age: 16+

Time to take the uphill skills you learned in the classroom and apply them in the great outdoors. Outdoor Recreation will be heading outside to seek out untracked snow in the mountains of New Mexico. Experience with AT skiing/splitboarding or attending the Into to AT Skiing class is required. Price includes gear and a guide.

Capulin Sled Day (Registration Closed)

Let Outdoor Recreation take you sledding. Release your inner child as you slide down the slopes at the Capulin Snow Play Site, maybe even create snow angels and memories. There is a winter wonderland for you to explore right outside the base in the Sandia Mountains.

Puppy Yoga (Registration Closed)

Puppies & Yoga… does it get any better than that? Join Outdoor Recreation for an evening of meditation, nature, and most importantly, puppy cuddles! We are teaming up with the East Mountain Companion Project for an interactive yoga class unlike no other! All of the puppies at this event are currently being fostered and are up for adoption! So you might even leave class with a brand new addition to the family- if it is the perfect match! Otherwise, enjoy giving these fur babies some extra love and pets while practicing your yoga poses. The price includes puppies, a mat, and a yoga instructor.

Full Wolf Moon Snowshoe Hike (Registration Closed)

Come and howl with us at the rising of the full Wolf Moon from atop a 10,000 foot high mountain on one of our most popular winter outings. Whether you’ve never tried snowshoeing before or are a long-time enthusiast, this hike is for you. Your guide will cover tips for moving efficiently and safely in an alpine environment. We’ll depart from the Sandia Crest parking lot and proceed along the crest for views of the full moon and the city. You’ll get to experience the sights and solitude of the forest at night under a blazing full moon and a blanket of stars for a truly magical experience. This hike is rated as moderate and is approximately 3.0 miles round trip with 150 feet of elevation gain.
