By filling out the information below, you give permission for your child to travel with Ms. Bouch to La Roche University on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 (7th-9th Grade) or Thursday, May 16, 2024 (6th Grade) for the English Festival Competition hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English (WPCTE). English Festival is a battle-of-the-books type competition where teams of 3-5 students from surrounding schools compete on their knowledge of four pre-selected books. We will depart CVMS around 7:45am and will return around 2:15pm. Students will not require special transportation before or after school. Lunch is included and will be served to students at La Roche University. Students will also have the opportunity to meet the famous author Saadia Faruqi (6th Grade) or Ellen Hagan (7-th-9th Grade) and have a book signed if one is brought with them. Students may also purchase books at the event for $10.

There is a $20 participation fee for each student. Checks should be made out to CVMS Activity Fund; cash is also accepted. Scholarships can be provided if needed. This expense covers the team registration fees. The English Festival uses the team registration fees to cover lunch, feature author, prize books for winning teams each session, and prizes for the winners of the entire competition. By completing the form, you state that you understand that the $20 participation fee cannot be returned in the event of a student no longer participating due to the fee already being paid to the English Festival. Additionally, if a student is in need of a scholarship to participate, please indicate below.
