Urban Gardener Certification Program Application
ANC is proud to be offering our semi-annual Urban Gardener Certification Program during the 2018 ANC Workshops and Roundtables Series. This certification is a comprehensive four-month long intensive training series on topics required to succeed in the field of urban gardening, accompanied by 6 hours of lab courses, and 20 hours of hands-on urban gardening experience under the instruction and supervision of GardenHouse Manager, Egypt Krohn, and Gardening Educator, Karalyn Grimes.
Workshops occur on Saturdays at the Hunter Park GardenHouse and the required labs are on bi-weekly Thursdays 6 - 7 PM.

Participants will attend the following required workshops and labs:
-Introduction to the UGC Program, February 8th 6 - 7 PM
-Seedstarting and Transplanting Workshop, February 10th 10 AM - Noon
-Planning Your Garden Year Workshop, March 3rd, 2 - 4 PM
-Pest and Disease Control Lab, March 8th 6 - 7 PM
Soil Care Workshop, March 17th Noon - 2 PM
-Compost 101 Lab, March 22nd, 6 - 7 PM
-Vermicompost Workshop, March 31st 10 AM - Noon
-Soil Samples,Tools, and Trellising Lab, April 5th 6 -7 PM
-Creating Beds, Transplanting, and Direct Seeding Lab April 19th 6 - 7 PM
-Routine Maintenance, Harvesting, and Self-Care Lab, May 3rd 6 - 7 PM.
The registration fee also includes attendance to one additional elective workshop and registrants are expected to complete twenty hours of field experience in the GardenHouse. Field hours must be completed within one calendar year (by Feb 8th, 2019). When all course requirements have been completed, participants will be granted the ANC Urban Gardener Certification.

Cost:

Registrants pay $100 for 11 workshop/lab sessions and course packet and complete 20 hours of hands-on gardening experience at the Hunter Park GardenHouse. Registrants must complete an ANC volunteer application, background check waiver, and orientation. All 20 hours of field-experience must be completed before registrants will receive their completion certificate.


Hunter Park GardenHouse Volunteer Shift Schedule:

We have volunteer shifts available during Hunter Park GardenHouse open hours. During volunteer orientation, you select a shift (we ask for a minimum of 2-hours per week) that works with your schedule.
September-May: Monday-Friday, 9:30am-12pm.
June-August: Monday-Friday, 9:30am-12pm & 5:30-7:30pm, and Saturday, 9:30am-12pm.

Full Payment is due no later than the first session (Thursday, February 8) via check, cash, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).
