Dark Sky Site Etiquette
We all want to enjoy the stars under the dark skies of Jon Wood Astronomy Field. Please follow these rules so that everyone can enjoy the experience.
- Be nice.
- No white lights after dark. Red flashlights are easily found online and at stores like Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Academy Sports. You can also make one from a spare flashlight with red nail polish.
- When driving on the field after dark, please use your parking lights.
- If you plan to leave early, please park along the tree line with your headlights facing the drive.
- Please use a red filter on any device screens, including laptops. This can usually be done through Accessibility Options on most devices or physically with red cellophane available at craft stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby.
