Petition for Green First Strategies for Sewage Overflow in Pittsburgh
Our region, specifically surrounding Four Mile Run area, puts 9 billion gallons of raw sewage into the river every year. The neighborhood of Greenfield, downstream from the University of Pittsburgh, experiences severe flooding and sewage backup problems because of the large amount of water flowing through Four Mile Run. It is a goal of our region to institute a storm-water utility that charges property owners a fee for use of the sewer system that is based upon the amount of impervious surface on their property. The University of Pittsburgh is an integral part of and a key leader in the Pittsburgh and regional community and therefore as students we would like the University to be aware of how much support there is for them to continue to stay at the table and work towards this greener solution for our city.
